BEING PREPARED IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING

We never know when trouble may occur. Does it happen often? Not really. When it does you’ll be glad you have it because when it means the difference between life and death, it pays to be prepared! Every-day occurrences such as car accidents, sports injuries, work-place incidents bring the possibility of serious injury.

A trauma kit is a necessary accompaniment to other first aid gear in the case of a serious injury. As was the case in the Boston bombing, nobody expected to have to treat the injuries that occurred. Fortunately people did an excellent job of improvisation (as lesson we can all use), but it sure would have been nice to have real tourniquets and bandages to treat the wounded!

YouTube is full of videos where individuals have caused themselves great bodily harm, most through foolish activities. We are fortunate that we can make good choices that will enable us to avoid these types of injuries. Even when the un-expected occurs, you can be ready as was a fellow DTI alum in the following story. IBD (Israeli Battle Dressing) to the Rescue!

IBD

If you don’t already own the components to a trauma kit, a good starter is made by Custom Med Kits out of Houston Texas. The DTI Kit comes with all the pieces you’ll need, it’s the same kit you get when you attend John’s Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds. He will be in Minnesota on August 15 to host the class followed by a 2-day Advanced Handgun course. Contact me if you’d like further information about the classes.
