WHATS IN THE NEWS
MOST VIOLENT COUNTRY
78-year-old Sabina Harrison was left with severe facial injuries after being mugged in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
With all the rhetoric tossed around regarding violent crime in the United States, you’d think we’d have to be the worst in the western world. Would you believe it, we’re not even in the top ten!?!
The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609.
As you can see in the chart, the UK has five times the incidents of violent crime including assault and robbery. They are quite embarrassed as you might surmise from the linked article.
Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa – widely considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries.
If you’re planning on traveling, be aware that even though Europe is touted as a “safe” place, it is not. The facts do not lie. Plan accordingly.

DEFENSIVE GUN USE FTW!
What could have become another killing spree was stopped by an individual legally carrying a firearm at work. The media was quick to point out that Mark Vaughan, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, is a reserve deputy sheriff. What they neglected to mention was that he was not on duty and not obligated to carry a sidearm. He was doing just as you and I would do, carrying during his day job. As we reported last week, Alton Nolen returned to the plant shortly after he was fired and beheaded one woman then was stabbing another when Mr. Vaughan shot him a number of times to stop the attack. Mr. Vaughan’s quick decision and action surely prevented the death of the second victim and others as well.
The Bottom Line is we need to be prepared at all times to be able to protect ourselves so that we do not become victims of workplace violence. This attack underscores that benefits of having a gun for self-defense.
Now authorities have classified the attack as a “workplace violence” incident. Like the Fort Hood and the Navy Yard killings, authorities are reporting “no direct ties to terrorist organizations”. What do you think, work place violence or terrorism? I believe it is important to determine the truth but even more important to be ready to protect ourselves from either one.
