WHATS IN THE NEWS
NBC EPIC FAIL
Home Invasions are on the rise. According to FBI crime statistics, they are occurring at a rate of 135 per day across the country. The recent high-profile home invasions of some celebrities prompted NBC TODAY show reporter Jeff Rossen to produce a segment entitled How to protect your family from home invasion (Click to Watch). It might be funny if it wasn’t such an EPIC FAIL.
What advice did Mr. Rossen give to his viewers? It seems as if it was more a parody of what NOT to do.
“Bring your car keys up. Alarm systems are very expensive, and this is a loud one. All you have to do is hit the keys. They don’t realize it, but it’s the best alarm system, and doesn’t cost them a penny.”
– FAIL
Use your Car Alarm? When is the past time anyone paid attention to a car alarm, especially one going off in someone’s garage.
“Buy a can of wasp hornet spray in the hardware store or the supermarket, keep it by your bedside or the floor,” he said. “It’s more powerful than police Mace.”
– FAIL
Insecticide? Really?? Besides the fact it is against Federal Law to use insecticide sprays “in a manner inconsistent with its labeling”, the label states clearly “Never Use Indoors”. Many insect poisons are made with the same chemical used in Nerve Gas.
“Sleep with all your bedroom doors open. You want your kids to hear what’s going on.”
– FAIL
Doors should be closed at night to protect against smoke and fire danger.
Cooperate. “You want to treat them like royalty. On top of that, you don’t want lie to them.”
– FAIL
Violent Criminal Actor gets a rush from hurting or killing their victims. Treating them well and giving them what they want will more than likely get you hurt or killed.
Wimpy Alarms. “You can buy one of these, they cost just $.99, it’s called a Windows Alerts”… “Experts say, noise is the best deterrent.”
– FAIL
Do you think that a 99-cent window alarm is going to send the VCAs running away with its wimpy screech?
Never give a home invader a chance to control you. Get your family to your safe room, call 911, defend yourself from a position of strength. Use good tools such as a high intensity flashlight, a defensive firearm, and your cell phone to call the police. If you purchase an alarm system, get a real one such as SimpliSafe. Let the police come and clear the house, don’t try to be a hero.
Remember, VCAs only understand resistance by use of force. Resist and you will win.
