WHATS IN THE NEWS
GUN SHOW BACKGROUND CHECKS
The anti-gun proponents continue to perpetuate the myth regarding a supposed lack of background checks at gun shows. The truth is that every dealer performs a background check every time they sell a firearm. If an individual chooses to purchase multiple guns from a dealer, they are required to submit a special form. When individuals attempt to avoid the rules and purchase multiple guns from multiple dealers, law enforcement notices the suspicious behavior and subsequently will catch people reselling the guns illegally.
In the accompanying report, the local law enforcement and BATFE agents observe a couple exhibiting this behavior, follows them, and catches them re-selling the guns they bought at the show. The system works. Dealers at gun shows do not sell guns illegally, and if people try to re-sell guns purchased at a show the authorities will catch them and arrest them. There is no gun show loophole, there is no need for more laws for gun show background checks. Click to Read: Undercover agents trail couple from gun show, watch them sell firearms illegally.
WOMEN BUYING GUNS
More women than ever own guns. The good news is that along with the increasing number of women choosing to buy and train with guns for personal protection, the number of organizations that support and train women is growing. Whether it’s the NRA Women’s network or any one of a number of small organizations around the country, there are more options for women to find someplace they feel comfortable to buy, and train with, guns.
We all should continue to encourage the growing respect for women, especially those that choose to arm themselves.

THE MODERN GUN RIGHTS MOVEMENT
One might believe that the modern gun rights movement began in the hallways of the NRA or some conservative organization. It is surprising to many that over the course of our nations’ history that individuals and groups on both sides of the political aisle have advocated for gun control. Even more surprising that the same can be said for advocating gun rights. Regardless of who fights for our civil rights, it is important we ensure these rights are upheld for the benefit of all Americans.
A worthwhile article by Thaddeus Russell goes into some detail describing the details of the book Gunfight: The Battle Over the Right to Bear Arms in America, by Adam Winkler. Mr. Russell observes “Despite Winkler’s apparent fondness for modern liberalism and consequent blind spots, he presents a history that turns on its head the modern liberal’s conceit that those who side with gun control necessarily side with the people.” I find his observations both interesting and compelling.
