WHATS IN THE NEWS
SHOOT TO WOUND?
Recently, Wolf Blitzer discussed the shooting of Ferguson teenager Michael Brown on CNN. He asked Jeffrey Toobin why police don’t just “shoot to injure.” He said instead of officers going right to “shoot to kill” if they believe they’re in danger, they could fire a warning shot or just shoot to injure instead. The fact is that law enforcement and civilian alike are taught to shoot only to end a threat of great bodily harm or death. A recent article by Mike McDaniel explains the concept of the use of deadly force to stop a threat. It is worth your time to understand the appropriate use of force and it’s something I teach in our courses. Click to Read: The Connotations of Deadly Force.
Unfortunately, television and movies perpetuate the false perception that threats can be easily stopped by casual single shots to the body or head. The reality is much different. In a follow-up article Mr. McDaniel goes in depth to explain the difference between the fiction of media versus the truth of reality. Click to Read: Shooting To Wound and Selling Popcorn.
FERGUSON MO.
John Boch, of Guns Save Lives, gives us a perspective that is not from the media or the talking heads. He reports an eye-witness account what’s really going on down there. With the dynamics of the situation his report makes the point that it could happen anywhere, it could happen here. I would like to emphasize the need for each of us to be prepared to defend ourselves, our homes, our businesses from the rampage of the irate citizens and criminal opportunists. Another thought regarding this situation. There are a number of people who have gone there to see it for themselves. This is taking a very big risk that I advise you not to take. Don’t put yourself needlessly in danger. In addition, it’s a good idea to obey a lawful order by the police. Click to Watch: Shots Fired During Ferguson Protests NSFW
DETROIT
Yet another police chief admonishes the general public to arm themselves for the purpose of personal defense. Police tell Detroiters to buy guns in city driven by race issues and crime.
