BEYOND THE PERMIT:
It’s only the beginning of your personal defense education
Congratulations! You have joined hundreds of thousands of people in the United States who have chosen to take responsibility for your own personal defense by getting a permit to carry a firearm. You have taken the first step toward having the right mindset, methods, skills, and equipment to be able to disengage from a threat against you or your loved ones.
That’s right, it’s just the first step.
Just as with any other part of life, we are all beginners when starting something new. Some might say, “Hey! I’ve been shooting guns my whole life! I don’t need to learn how to shoot a gun”. Unfortunately, gun handling is isn’t the most important category to understand, not even the second! Long before acquiring the necessary gun-handling skills to defend yourself, one must begin to form the mindset necessary to be prepared to stop a lethal threat.
What is mindset? It’s a habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations.
A defensive mindset is a state of mind that enables an individual to be prepared for, and intentionally act upon, a situation that may put you in harms way. It’s an understanding of how the choices you make can affect the outcome of a given situation.
Why is this important? It helps you to avoid stupid people doing stupid things and in stupid places. It motivates you plan and train for the risks that are part of every-day life. When you do, you’ll likely avoid any kind of trouble in the first place. But, if it somehow finds you in spite of your best efforts, it means you can act in a competent manner to deter or disengage the threat.
What can you do? Take the next step, go beyond the permit. Attend a defensive firearms course that does more than focus on gun-handling skills. In our courses we provide options over a wide range of topics to enable you to train for, and operate successfully under, the pressure of a life-threatening encounter.
My goal is to enable you to make good choices and help prepare you in the following areas.
Mindset – An understanding of how the choices you make can affect the outcome of a given situation.
Tactics – Practical lifestyle options and a number of methods to manage threats to your safety.
Skills – The techniques necessary for the proficient use of firearms.
Equipment – Discuss appropriate self-defense tools including firearms and alternatives
Ultimately the choice up to you to be prepared, to know what to do, to decide what to do, then to act according to the situation. When the effort is made to train and practice, you are the one with the mindset, tactics, skills and equipment to avoid or end a threat to your safety.
Be Safe. Be Prepared. Get Trained. – You are the One.
